A complete free SRT subtitle review tool. Check existing subtitle structure, malformed timestamps, overlapping cues, numbering, empty text and readability flags. View the complete CSV report for copying into a spreadsheet, with an additional download button.

Choose one UTF-8 SRT file or paste its text, adjust the optional readability thresholds, and select Check subtitles. Processing stays in your browser; subtitle contents are not uploaded. No account, payment, donation, email or API key is required to use the checker.

Included functionality

• Reviews up to 5 MB of text and 20,000 blocks in a review.
• Reports errors and readability flags without changing your source captions.
• Shows the complete CSV issue report in selectable text for copying. The issue table shows up to 500 issues; the CSV includes them all. A separate download button is also provided.
• Clear inputs removes the working text from page memory.

Scope

Basic SRT only; positioning extensions and WebVTT are outside this checker’s scope. It does not transcribe, translate, repair captions or certify accessibility or broadcast compliance. A clean report does not prove synchronization or meaning: review subtitles with the video. Files must be UTF-8.

Tested in Microsoft Edge on Windows, including this itch.io embed, its overlap and invalid-duration checks, complete CSV text, and input clearing. Other browsers and mobile devices are unverified.

Optional batch finishing

If you need to shift timing, wrap text and export up to 20 existing SRT/basic VTT files together, ClipCaption is a separate complete offline download on Gumroad for USD15. The entire checker and CSV report remain free.

Privacy and AI disclosure

itch.io hosts this page under its own policies. External product links send normal connection information and campaign labels to their providers when opened. Subtitle processing is local and deterministic. Code and text were created with generative AI assistance; this tool does not use an AI service.
